I was wondering if anyone had any good books or sources for climbing in MD? I'd love to do some climbing in Rocks State Park in northern MD over the holidays, but I'm new to leading and wouldn't do it without some solid beta. It seems like Climb Maryland! is the top choice, but it's $100 ...Eric J. Horst also wrote a book titled Rock Climbing Virginia, West Virginia, and Maryland, but I'm not sure whether it is going to have good enough details for some of the smaller crags. If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them! Thanks

Marshall,

The Climb Maryland! book is by far the most comprehensive guide for MD. Head to a local EarthTreks, they usually have them for sale at a more reasonable price.

Check out the Mid-Atlantic Climber's Coalition site http://www.midatlanticclimbers.org/ (tell 'em Mike Gray said "Hi!") or try the Potomac Mountain /club on Facebook.

Jslash thanks. The Earthtreks idea worked like a charm. And Roninthorne thanks for the hookup, although I'm not living in MD for the time being so I will have to save that idea for when (if ever) I'm back to living in Bmore

If you are looking to boulder, there are a few spots within an hour or two from the Rocks State Park area, plus some bouldering in the park. I live just outside of Rocks State Park, so if you'd like to borrow a crash pad or get a walk-through of the park just let me know I will try and help. If you don't get a response PM'ing me, shoot a message over to CrankClimbing on Facebook - we're all local.
