Can't say about the new ones, but I do have one that's at least 10 years old and its as good today as the day I bought it.

Looks fancy.

Are you just looking for a durable duffel, or was there something specific that you liked about it (waterproofness)?

I've used the MEC in the old 130L size for years and it's stood up like a champ. Important things about it: burly fabric and zippers. Other than that it's a pretty bare bones bag.

waterproofness

i'd like to use it as a carry on. i already have a great backpack for carry on and i'm looking for a duffel...no more checked baggage.

Waterproofness and durability have been fine for general/airline travel. Not so much when strapped to a donkey for a week, but then again few are.
