Found Climbing 108, Aug 88.
Cover Pic is of The Cheif, with a climber in Addidas sweats. But plenty of pics of men in tights grace the pics in the mag.

Marathon Monday (aka Patriot's Day - or the shot heard 'round the world). I miss this day. I always went to work (the building was located literally next door to Fenway Park) and then promptly went out to watch the leaders in the morning before returning to watch my coworkers in the afternoon.

For those who haven't experienced the Boston Marathon - this is a hugely important day for the city and region. I mean, the support is absolutely amazing. There's a reason why it's considered the premier marathon in the world, and it's not just because its hilly and hard but because they're expecting 1m fans today. Seriously, 1 million. There's a section of the course called The Scream Tunnel at Wellesley College. It's called such because the roar of the crowd there (most those female students) generate so much noise that the competitors can hear it more than a mile away. Consequently it's the second largest marathon field in history today, too. The largest was Boston's 100th year in 96 or 97.

I wish I could be there today. Where I normally watched was less than a mile from the finish line. I probably would have been near the bombs if I had still been in Boston. Not close enough to be hurt or experience it, but close enough to hear and see the smoke. I can only imagine the emotions these runners are going to have today.

On a funny note, Doug Flutie woke up this morning and said, "I think I'll run the marathon." Seriously, he's doing it off the couch.
*esprit drove straight through to Boston over the weekend and ran it on a dare*

That does sound like something I would do
mhmmm

maybe not do... but it sounds like some horrible idea I would agree too... Crazy

much like the back to back adventuring I may have agreed to do next year...
Either way, you're going.

I'd think you could sell those.

Slower is better than faster. Take your time and heal properly... you will thank yourself for it. I'm still witnessing the aftermath of my mother rushing things thinking that she knew better because she felt better. 20 years later and she's still undergoing surgeries to correct it. She's going in a few weeks to have three screws and a plate put in.

TL;DR: Take your time.

This one:

We climbed the North Arete of the First, which is the right hand skyline. 70M on the First Flatironette, then 400' or so of 4th class simulclimbing, and then 4 70M pitches on the ridge proper. 100' vertical rap off the back, most of it free hanging.

Sounds sort of like...shit, can't remember which route I've done that's like that. Never rapped off WG, but could be like that. Hmmm...

Trying to get through the day today. not easy. too much work I don't want to do, not enough cash to do the work I want to do. trying to sketch it all out in my mind. canvases and paint are expensive for these paintings. hoping a meeting with a gallery yesterday went well. not holding out hope as my art is much less commercial than what's in her gallery, but one never knows. everyone needs a start right?

exhibit ends Sat. sold one painting, which paid for the exhibit. One more sale will pay rent. I told the museum owner he could choose whichever painting he wanted to add to the permanent collection. He hopes to do an exhibit with these donations next year. I'm kind of excited about it. It's nice to be in a permanent collection of a museum, but it'd be nicer to eat.

Townes Van Zant has been my friend this morning.

Well, actually the expression is a literary one and not literal. In order to create art one must go through some sort of suffering to get away from the level of measurable production on the way toward the level of creative rendering.

But yeah, often this is part of the process. And yeah, I'm kind of hungry - though not that hungry. In short, I walk 40min to work each way just to save on taking the bus. I save about US$2.50 per day doing that. Some days I walk more than 40min because those students are farther away. Fruits and veggies are way cheaper, too.

And yet, I've gained weight. Unsure
