Hi.
i'm preparing for a 1st yosemite experience and i'm wondering if it's worth buying an heavy duty pulley or if my micro trax will do fine.
the big question is : up to which load is it safe to haul with a micro trax?
petzl says that the max working load is 2,5 kN, but what doies "working load" actually mean?
is it like "cruising speed" or it means that past 2,5 kN some parts of the system will work (eg the pulley axle won't break) but others won't? (cam, bearings, etc)
any empirical or anedoctical evidence?

for any sizable load you will want a larger pulley (like the protraxion).
If you can't afford a protaxion, I would consider buying a larger pulley and using it with an ascender.
I own both and the protraxion is definitely the way to go, although the mini works ok for small loads (basically anything you could carry in on your back).

Working load means you will have a 3: 1or 5 : 1safety at that load.

use a small pnp pulley and one prusik, its rated to 8 kn , its safe , works awesome.
if you don't know what working load means, you are not ready for yosemite
