I was wondering if anyone climbs here. Never seen climbers there and been there 3 or 4 times.

I went over to Waterboard the other day. I never would have found the place had you not suggested it. I'm new to town and have been driving down to the Portland Rock Gym, being in Oregon City its quite a drive so now I can just go there. I only walked down the hill about 1000 yards, enough to see some small bouldering areas and further down the road some semi large boulders and a small sheer cliff.
Anyways thanks for the info.

I went to http://ors.alpineclub.org/AAC/waterbd.html and it only had a few routes. Somebody mentioned bouldering, what types of probelms are there are are there any more routes. Right now a 5.9 is the top of my ability and i can lead a 5.7 at best. I only have quick draws and a rope, no trad gear. Is it still worth it to go here?

i tried to go there and made it as far as the armory. Are you supposed to walk in from there? I was just on a lunch break and didn't have the time to explore it. How is the climbing? Is it worth the drive? I live in Vancouver.
Thanks

My friend Steve and I probably climb at Waterboard more than anybody right now. We hung all the new hardwear, which mostly consisted of restoring routes which had become completely overgrown with moss since they were established (aprox 15 - 20 years ago).

The following site has a good map on finding the crag...

http://ors.alpineclub.org/AAC/waterbd.html

Only two of the routes we put up were not previously established (M.I.A. and Red Line, both on Columns Wall) but the guy who established most of the routes told me that he was fairly certain a friend of his had done them on trad gear and/or free some years prior. Basically, the whole area is "First Ascent - Unknown" as far as I'm concerned.

As for bouldering, the best is a fairly large boulder just below Columns Wall, which usually has some chalk marks on it.

Originally the area was trad leading with home made anchors. I replaced all the anchors with modern hardwear and chains, and changed three of the routes to sport and/or mixed. The routes range from 5.10 to 5.7 and below.

E-mail me if you want any additional information.

Jeff T.

You mentioned a specific wall, are there multiple walls? Also, how many routes are there?

Is anyone still climbing at Waterboard? Are there any updates since '05, especially concerning access? Is it worth driving from Damascus, or should I just stay at Carver?

I love the route, but the first protection is 20 feet high. I would love put a bolt in. I don't have confident to so. we top rope we had to find way up and do some boundary passing. up top there are houses. We love it just some more protection make me feel safe. Crazy

I went here this past summer and there was tons of branches all over the ground making it hard to get to the routes. I would like to go back to waterboard and do some clean up and put up new routes this summer.
