8 and 12 or 7 and 13?

At least the totals add up in both cases. See google news for more.

All the BC new stations i have seen said 8. this is sad, but at the same time thats one of the risks of the back country. I hope the ones that were rescued are ok.

It's hard to find any names right now. They said four dead skiers are Canadians and three are from US.
I will monitor news for names and post them as soon as possible.

I was just skiing in that general area yesterday (around 10-15km away as the crow flies), we skied up into the alpine and got a reushblock 2, after seeing that we stuck to the trees and were pretty conservative, i wonder why they were in the alpine in those conditions, i know the hut is run by an extremely professional and safety concious staff and that the party was probably guided, geez this really sucks, it's been a very sketchy year in the snowpack here, please everyone be very carefull !!

they weren't heli skiers that area is a ski touring lodge you only use the helicopter for fly in access to the hut, hope this helps

I thought it was a Heli-Ski group? My sister works at a Heli-Ski lodge and her and others were called into help with the rescue. They couldnt go because of foggy conditions apparently. but back on topic, she said it was a heli ski group, with pro guides and everything. Sounds like it couldnt have been prevented. Very sad indeed

I hate what the news is doing with this. Investigators?? You have to be kidding me. Avalanches are part of the risk, the snow was unstable and the risk at considerable...I wouldn't have gone out. This is a relitivly harmless avalanche compared to ones that bury whole towns in the Alps.

No doubt sad, anyways.

here's a link about one of the victims, Craig Kelly. IMHO the worlds best snowboarder, and a damn good guy.

it sucks!

ed* there's also a link to the CNN article on this page

Jeremy Said: "This is a relitivly harmless avalanche compared to ones that bury whole towns in the Alps."

That has nothing to do with it! How is this at all relavent to what happened? Im sure if you were close to an avalanche even HALF the size of the one which occured, you would s*it your pants and break down into tears. Quit talking like a super macho mountain guy or something
