Men (nonclimbers) see my arms, ask if I work out, and when I tell them I climb, they insist on arm wrestling me. Do any of you other girls get this? This didn't used to happen to me when I just lifted weights...

Haven't had that happen. I have been asked to pick up a 200-pound guy (I did), and I beat the hell out of my husband at Mercy, though.

In my experiance with arm wrestling it is not the forearm that contributes but rather the pectorial muscle. In reality you will find that other sports like swimming where the pectorial muscle has a far higher value to the sport are much better arm wrestlers than climbers. (on average of course)
Edit: But you could kick the heck outta any non-climber at Merci fights.

I have yet to be challenged to an arm wrestle. I too, am always challenging the guys, but no takers yet. I also am looking forward to the day I can find a man to challenge to a pullup contest!
Esther- hope you had fun at Jack's last weekend. We didn't make it, my husband was sick. Hope to see you there in the future though.

We did have fun, thank you. Well, I had more fun than my partner, who forgot his sleeping bag.
Hopefully we will run into one another. In a couple of months, it'll be getting rather warm down here, and you can bet your but I'll be Flagstaff bound. So, I'm sure it will be. Hope your hubby is feeling better!

When we were students, we used to arm wrestling (when drunk most of the time), and once I introduced a climbing girl friend and she kicked ass!

Esther~ This is just plain awesome! I love it! Unfotunately I can't beat my boyfriend at Mercy or Arm wrestling...time, give it time. I can beat the pants off my dad though! :lol: It's all about getting revenge for being grounded as a tean-ager! :wink:

Hasn't happened yet...but...I was trying on clothing the other day at very upscale store and the sales associate said "Great arms...do you work out?" Made me feel really good.

Yeah - I get a lot of "wow, your arms are bigger than mine" - to which I think "man, do you work out at all?"

Haven't tried arm wrestling in a while - but I've mastered thumb wrestling :wink:

You gals are lucky!! I look at my arms and while they feel strong, you can't tell there are muscles there. I feel like I have tubearm and keep trying to do more bicep curls and triceps to make the muscles larger.

I have this problem with men all the time. I have heard remarks about my arms for a long time time now, and some of them were very insulting. I am still sensitive when somebody remarks about my arms but I am lucky to have a climbing partner that always asures me that I look great and I should feel proud that I have a climber's biceps. and so I am!!!!!
so the he.. with all of them. be proud to be a climber and to have a climber's body.
