In the gym, yeah - sometimes it gets you pumped up to do a route; however, outside I don't. Even if I'm bouldering alone, I think it's better to be aware of my surroundings. I might miss a 'rope!', or something breaking ... you make the scenario ... Definitely not when climbing with a partner because communication is so critical. Don't want to miss a call for slack, or that 'oh sh*t' just as they start to fall I just feel it is best to keep my wits about me outdoors and leave the music in the car.

if you are in a gym and they are playing music then thats cool i guess. otherwise i think it is dangerous and can be disrespectful to others(in regards to music preferences and volume).

I do, only at the Gym, and usually when it's quieter in the day. I tend to go when the gym is almost empty. Better choice routes. Less, lines. I like to listen to my music, rather than the Staff's choice...keeps me focused. Cord get's in my way, though. I usually take it off, before I'm half way done. T

Umm.... Right. I like to sit down after a long day of climbing and chill out with some Miles Davis or Metallica on the headphones. AW

I like the music in the gym, but I agree with most of the poeple here. The distractions are to many. We really need to be paying attention to the life on the other end of the rope, because it could be yours. Not to mention, it's great just to hear the wind and water and all the other stuff.

I think it's cool in the gym, but then only what they have playing. I would hate it outside though. I mean half the reason I'm out, besides to climb of course, is to be out in nature where it's peaceful, with no cell phones, tv's or radios. Sitting there out in the woods with a boombox under one arm and my climbing rope under the other just kinda seems like cursing in church or something. Just MHO. Later ~ARnold

Indoor music is cool it helps drown out the bad acoustics of most climbing gyms. Outdoor its just plain inconsiderate to others using the outdoor, unless of course your using headphones.

When bouldering or in the gym, music is good. I get kind pumped when you got the rave techno cranked, but outdoors, nope. communication problems and distracting to others, thats all folks!
