I have been climbing at bmx a few times and overheard other partys talking about Hercules Finger. They refer to it as the Pecker Wrecker.I know theres a route called that there, but I wonder what it the history behind this crag and its name? Hercules Finger is the name given to the formation by other desert user groups, you can see a small picture of it in the Slash X dating back to the 60's. When we were there putting in the routes, we thought it looked like a giant woodie with a couple of nads and named the routes accordingly.

I seriously thought I was going to open up this post and see: If you had to lose one, which one would you rather lose. Finger or pecker?

The Slash X is the old ranch house turned restrant/bar on the 247 between NJC and Barstow, only 10 mins from the Main climbing area. It's a good place to hang out on the cold long nights mid-winter. They have a wood burning stove, bar, food, pool table, darts, video games. Tina, the bar keep, Butch, one of the cooks and the rest of the Slash X crew are real cool. There is also some old newspapers on the wall about the history of the area, very interesting stuff. [ This Message was edited by: tripperjm on 2003-02-16 20:14 ]

Dood, Jay, where else can you get a Mountain of chili?? What I could do to the local plumbing later would make the cost worth EVERY penny I love Barstow night life

When your local winter crag is NJC, Barstow night life rocks! Mexican food and margaritias, Dancing at Ruby's, a couple of dive bars and off to bed in any number of cheap motels all within 20 mins of the crag. Life doesn't get any better?

For real, jm. I really do get a kick out of Barstow! Carlos & Toto's rules over Rosita's, IMHO, and if you want to adopt a stray cat, just hang around the Motel 6 parking lot. And go into the front office and say hi to Marian- I'm sure HE'd be glad to have the company wait, doesn't my profile say I'm from Arizona?? eh!

I recently read hercules finger (aka) finger rock, is ouned by blm and is open to the public. It is also the site of a battle between ranchers and rustleres the 1800's.I have still not driven out there because I thought it was off limits.I belive there may be an acess issue.
