DENALI NATIONAL PARK--- The National Park Service has released a draft of its backcountry management plan for Denali National Park. The Park Service says the plan is intended to address increasing use of remote areas of the park during the past two decades. The agency says the number of scenic landings in the Ruth Amphitheater increased from 220 in 1991 to 1,800 in 2001. In addition, there were 124 attempts to climb Mount McKinley in 1970 compared with 1,209 in 2000. The four alternatives in the draft explore different levels of access and resource protection. The Park Service plans to hold informational workshops on the draft plan this month in Healy, Fairbanks, Anchorage, Wasilla, Cantwell and near Talkeetna. -- The Associated Press
