Hey Bumblebounce Tricky one.. Firstly do you have any good friends you know who climb, who can take you to the wall or on the rock weekends or something like that. That would be the easiest choice. Also i notice you're still at school/ college, got any climbing clubs or anything like that there, you can join?... I know a lot of school/ university climbing clubs in England normally arrange a trip at least once a week to a climbing wall, do they have that at your school? The other thing you can do though is try and do your own sort of training at home which sounds a bit boring but its amazing what you can do.. Simple things like hanging of door frames to build up finger strengh, pull ups if you are strong enough.... If you can get to a wall or on the rock but can only make it every couple or weeks but you then decide that climbing is really the thing you want to do... you could always try and create your own climbing wall/ area ...although I realise this might be a bit extreme as you've only just started climbing..(so make sure you've been a few times and know its a sport you are going to continue with...ok) I don't know what sort of place you live in but you could ask your parents if you could put some bolt on holds to stick outside of your house, make up traverses and short boulder problems...(get them to buy you bolt on holds for xmas.... I would suggest that you go somewhere like a local climbing store and seek advice on this though. At the end of the day, you've got to find a way to get to the walls or the rock, or bring it home to you...invent your own with whats around you. One more tip if you really get into climbing and can't get out enough..do other things to compliment the sport and keep muscles stretched and toned like yoga, stretching, LIGHT Weight training..I emphasise light as you are still growing so don't do anything excessive on the weights side. Also doing things like gymastics at school will make you flexible and give you good balance & eye to hand co-ordination and give confidence ...and I could go on and on... Keep trying and you will find a way. Good Luck Angela [ This Message was edited by: stigonrock on 2001-12-15 12:04 ]

Look, kid, the odds are obviously stacked against you. Your parents and friends don't wanna play. Just threaten your parents; tell them you're gonna start freesoloing buildings if they don't get you a membership at the gym. But if they balk, and don't buy you a membership you hafta follow thru, just to show THEM you're for real. SO: get some nails and a hammer and some scraps of wood, and just start makin routes in the living room while they're at work. THEN they'll send you off to a boarding school, where you can climb those cool brick buildings. ONTHE OTHER HAND: climbing has ruined my feeble little life. I have been unable to think of anything else for 30 yrs now, and either I work in the sewers of new york or have to GUIDE for my money....so think twice B4 you start climbing and then it's TOOOO LAAAAATE....

It's already too late... once I climbed (thought it took me a year and that's like 20 trys to get to the top) thougth it was like 20 feet I felt like I concquered something... so since then I've been addicted. On the other hand you have some good ideas to piss off my parents to give the kayak and paddle I want AND let me climb. But then again to think... if I piss my parents right before Christmas... I think I better after Christmas! [ This Message was edited by: bumblesbounce on 2001-12-16 05:53 ]

Sure there isn't... You should ask your dad to help you build a wall in your garage or backyard... Tell him it's either this or you'll find something else to focus on, like marijuana... or crack cocaine... AW

Look, I don't know how old you are but I am only thirteen and live in the most boring place on earth, South Dakota, also extremely flat. But anyways I used to live in montana and we visit alot and I was there and me and my partial climbing cousin went to the local gim. It ended up that I was invited back for a competition in may and needed to train for it so I just bought a hang board and found out that the ten minute work out takes your grip and streghth from not bad to could hang there all day. And now me and my dad are in the process of building a bouldering wall. (my parents are pretty suportive) Stonesquirrel

I too am a 13 year old climber but then ofcourse i live co lots of places ot go...The trick is get your rich best freind intrested just long enough that he learns how to belay Than ask his parents to take you to a gym and leave you there...The only downside is that sometimes he'll wanna climb...Of course there's also your girlfreind/boyfreins
