Ahh!!! My first time... Joshua Tree - Toe Jam...April 2002. I spent that entire week with the biggest goofiest grin on my face. :D Then had a little tiff with The Bong...I returned for New Years and LED IT Jan 2003... So good you see, we kiss, we make up. Editted: for Canadian dropping "A"s too much

misson gorge, san diego, california, where the locals were climbing 5.12's in 1976 and calling them 5.10 out of total ignorance. talk about out of the mainstream. nobody realized how strong they were until they started getting on the hards at jtree and the valley and woodson and finding themselves on a hikefest. go there sometime and get on mission impossibe, obverse from the gap, or the trapeze. they were all rated 5.10 or "easy" 5.11 at one time. whew! and then there's the pink boulder...V6 boulder problems in '75 and '76 and '77...but that's another story...

A little wall in the back of a store called The Benchmark. The wall had top ropes up to (gasp!) 20ft!

The first thing I climbed was the lounge chair before I could crawl, I even did the mantle top out up the back of the chair. I then proceeded to onsight the clothesline up the back yard before I was 2 years old. ...Phil...

The first place I climbed outdoors on "REAL" rock was in "the Outlets" in the Black Hills. Indoors was at the University of Minnesota-Duluth climbing wall.

My first real climbing was at Interstate State Park (Taylor's Falls) Minnesota. I can't remember the actual route name, but it was about 5.4 and quite an adventure at the time. Curt

i learned how to climb (even lead) indoors at the Powerhouse gym in Vegas before climbing real rock.. but the first real climbing i did was at Canibal Crag, Calico Basin, at Red Rock, NV. there's an awkward 5.8, my first outdoor lead.

Aside from the usual neighborhood trees, the first real rock that I climbed (TR) was at Tennessee Wall. ok, so I didn't actually make it but half way up that climb. But he next day I climbed (TR) at Foster Falls and then the next day we were back at Twall and I did top out a climb there (Nappy). Bryan
