I have been quite a few places in the US and in other countries and I'm really impressed with Utah and all the different options they posses. I would like your input if you know of anywhere else that offers better climbs or more variety.

Being from Utah, and only 15 minutes from Maple Canyon, and 30 minutes from Rock Canyon, I couldn't be happier.

But, City of Rocks In Idaho was fantastic.

We are already planning our next trip there as soon as the SNOW melts!

St. George Utah is also a super place to climb.

[-- Lives right next to Chicago, IL. Total elevation change, +- 3 feet. We have no rocks.

It's so hard to get outside and climb, and I hate it.

There is a ton of sport climbs at Red River Gorge Ky, Foster Falls Tenn, and New River Gorge WVa. Check out www.drtopo.com for topos and info on bouldering and sport climbs, all the topos for sport climbs have a (SC) next to them.

No one brought up The Gorge?

I myself have never been there, beings it's about 8 hours away. But a few of my buddies have gone, and the climber is stellar I hear.
Mixed sport and trad, but if you want to lower off, bring 2 60m ropes or a 70 for sport routes.
on alot of teh sport routes you've gotta downclimb the last few feet I hear with a 60M.

dustirap, Are you talkig about the Virgin River Gorge just over the Utah board into Arizona/Nevada?

I have heard about them, and when we head to St. George, we are going to try and get some information on them. I can't find any on the computer.

Owens River Gorge. I forget that everyone here isn't from California at times.

Don't break the secret pact. There are Californians listening. We don't need anymore of those.
The best climbing is on the east coast. Everybody go East and leave me here by myself.

Thanks for the posts everyone! They have given me some places to check out. Oh and by the way those people planning on going to the Virgin River Gorge in AZ/UT, it is so awesome! My friends and I took a trip to Vegas and on the way decided to do some free climbing. Pretty hairy stuff but what a rush. That was one of the coolest places to climb. I need to go back with some equiptment next time.

If I told you, I'd have to kill you!

So far the best I've seen is Smith Rock outside of good ole' Terrbone(?) Oregon! And, by the way if you think the beer is good in Colorado you should visit Oregon!

I would go with Owens'; however, Williamson has a couple of "must do's" and there are some great climbs in the high desert area as well.
Going to CO next year...uh, I mean ...Ohio...I'll report back

Tennessee Wall, outside of Chattanooga, is one of my favorites. This should be taken with a grain of salt, however, as I've not been to very many places, and have not (yet) had the chance to climb out West.

Though for numbers, variety, and ease of access, it's rather nice.

Best,

JRB

We have some great places down here in South Africa. The two main places(There are several others as well) are "Waterval Boven" near the city of Nelsruit, and "Mnt Everest Game Reserve" near Harrismith. Both places are located relatively east in the country. Waterval Boven has over 300 bolted routes and accomadates beginning climbers through to the experts. The rock is Quartzite and of wonderful quality. Mnt Everest Game Reserve as in the region of 120 bolted routes and potential for plenty more in the surrounding areas. The rock is a very hard Sandstone that becomes a little bit brittle during the rainy season, but rock hard in the dry season.
Hope to see you there!

Rock on...
