rrradam, nikegirl and everyone else. I'm hang'n, about an hour and a half from J. Tree. It would be great to hook up... I know a lot of good people at the Gordon Ranch, among other hangs. Let me know, I'll be in the area.

Hey: Anyone driving to J-Tree from Portland, OR, the first day or two of january? I'm climbing some 5.10a/b, maybe only 5.9 cause I haven't climbed in 2 months because of our rainy climate in Oregon. I could chip in for gas & bring a rope and some gear. jon

Wow... What a response. Camping is free with your entrance pass... $10 for 2 weeks, $20 for a year, $50 for a Golden Eagle Pass. PM me and I'll give you my pager # or home phone. ~Adam

Hey fo-d, There are plenty of great classics in that range. Go during the week...that would be best. My friends and I will cruising some of the easier routes (5.6 to 5.8.) If you've never been to J-Tree...you're going to be in absolute awe. I've been going for the past three years, and it is still incredible. (And yes, I know that I need to begin adding to the routes section of the site...) Hasta!

That would be really cool but I think I'm going to rent a car at the airport, but what would really help is to find out where the camp ground is where I can hook up with you or other that are gonna be there. I'm going to try to find a map of the park online, if anyone knows a good site for one that would really help too.

It's going to get a bit chilly and the days are short. (Sunrise @ 6:44; Sunset @ 4:41) Nighttime temps will probably drop below freezing...which may happen as soon as the sun begins to go down. (Get a good sleeping bag and tent or bail out to one of the local hotels) Highs will probably be in the low to mid 60's. This is the desert and the weather can change pretty fast. Wind can also be a factor; however the above information should give you a decent idea of what to expect. As I stated before, Joshua Tree is a beautiful place. (Adam, are we staying in the park or Indian Cove?) Can't wait!

I always try to camp in Hidden Valley Campground first, if not I go to Jumbo Rocks. The first night, I can go to Jeremy's Cyber Cafe outside the West Entrance and get online and update this post as to where I am in the park. fo_d... A good map of the park is part of the entrance fee if you come in during the day, and the booth is manned. But my Pathfinder is easy to spot... The license reads RRRADAM. rrrADAM

I hate to be a wimp but I think I'm gonna take henagerlessbolt's idea bout the motel, for one thing I hate to pack all that camping gear and put it on the plane and, I'm a fair weather camper. One more question....rrradam how much of my gear should I bring? will we be doing mostly trad, top rope or sport, I have 2 ropes, chocks, some hexes and draws, if you want me to bring it all I can with no trouble. I think thats all I need to know except, sometime before the 9th let me know where to find you when we get there. hangerlessbolt....how far are the motels or hotels and do you have any names for them or would it be ok to just wait till i get there to get one? ttyl [ This Message was edited by: fo_d on 2001-12-19 11:22 ]

Well, just an update on the weather this Thursday it is suppose to rain and maybe a little on Friday morning. Adam and I will be leaving on Friday instead of Thursday. Climbing is all about FUN and FRIENDS not the rating (for me anyways)!!! Well, I hope to meet some of you at J. Tree and if you have any questions at all, ASK!!!

There is also an "Information Board" in Hidden Valley campground where people can post messages (back side). For those of you that havn't been there for a while it might be a little confusing at first. They moved the main road going past Intersection Rock to west side of it. There's a parking lot on the northeast side of IR now. I agree with rradam, I like to camp at Hidden Valley campground best but it's harder to get a site there. Ryan campground is my next option and then Jumbo.

I'll have to update this thread from Jeremy's or leave a message on the above mentioned board at Hidden Valley about where I'll be... Depends on what's available. I don't like Ryan cause there's no shelter from the wind if it picks up. ~Adam
