i guess i got lucky. i started when i was 13 or 14. i just happened to know older people that were into it. they took me everywhere and taught me most of what i know. you should be able to meet lots of people at the gyms that you could hook up with to climb. i think that is the best place to meet new people, other then here.

I got lucky. I was born in the nicest mountain range in the U.S. (sierra nevada).
But, when I was a young punk, I did alot of buildering when I couldn't get to the boulders or crags. Look around, and start pulling. But don't climb on buildings that are fragile or on buildings that'll tic someone off. Better yet, try to get the grownups in your family interested in climbing. Then they'll take you out with them to the gym or boulders or crags.

When I was young I used to love to climb on rocks. Then I "grew up" and got too busy to bother. After I had kids I rediscovered the joy of just climbing on things, started bouldering, realized I sucked and started going to the climbing gym to get better so I could climb more fun stuff. So far it's been working out fine.

hey frogirl! good bet would be to get to know people at your gym- let them know you are interested in climbing outside... and who knows, if you are a good belayer they might ta ke you with them! Also, you might want to let people here know where you live and then maybe they can hook you up when they go out climbing- but if you do either of these things make sure that the peopele you go with are responsible, and have been climbing for a long time... and not psychos or anything (never know who is on the internet these days...). Good luck- be persistant and it will work out for you.

you could go to a camp about climbing or find a friend(who has a car) that likes to climb and then you can go. I would first start off sport climbing but that is my opinion.

There's also a good series of 3 articles that do a pretty good job of taking you step by step on how to get into climbing. Check them out at the bottom of:

Hope this helps.
