I was out at Twiss rock today and there are now signs bolted to the rock stating that there is a $70.00 fine for climbing there and if you wish to climb there you can apply for a permit if you are a registered climbing group. Needless to say I'm going to call Conservation Halton to get more detail and to state my displeasure as a taxpayer in Halton.

Does anyone have anymore beta on this clousure? I realize Sunset rock is not anything spectacular but I stilled enjoyed some after work bouldering there, it's a shame that Conservation Halton has done this.

What qualifies as a group? How much? What kind of poo-head crap is this? If they had permits for individual climbers that'd be okay right?

Just wanted to add a link on this whole subject. Someone from the Gripped board has called Halton Conservation. Follow the link for more info.

gaa!!! I can't beleive they bolted that sign directly to the rock! At least they could have hammered a sign into the ground, what's worse is that they're called conservation halton! Shouldn't they be preserving stuff?

If you read the comments from Gripped speaking of it being an environmentally sensitive area it see rather silly that they would bolt it dirrectly into the rock. After all, is the cliff ecology delicate or something?

I called the number and I was given the following info:
It's only for "legit" groups, and they'll check each group out
I was given a phone number for questions, here it is:

Amy Schnurr at Crawford Lake
905-854-0234 ext 223

Apparently Amy will answer all of our questions, so lets all ask.
