Mostly all of the ropes out there say to retire them at 5 years. Thats with little or no use, god forbid. But you start counting after you buy it, but how much time do you think the rope actually sat there in the shop, either on the spool or sold in the bag. I dont know about popular shops in utah and calafornia, but here in ohio, there isn't even a boulder for about 300 miles. So the demand for ropes isn't that high. Maybe they have been over stocked for a year or two now. Who knows? Kinda makes you wonder doesn't it?

KINDA Makes me wonder why a Rockclimber would live in OHIO....??????????????????????????????????? ??????????????????????????????????????????? ??????????????????????????????????????????? ????????? BUT, when U finally wake up and get ready to move to a state w/mountains, just REMEMBER: There's plenty of room for U in COLORADO. But California, Oregon, Washington and Especially ALASKA are all full up. No room at all. [ This Message was edited by: graniteboy on 2001-12-28 14:16 ]

The only reason I live in ohio is because I'm 16, have no money, and my parents are stubborn. As soon as I graduate im off to UTAH, YEAY!

graniteboy- How can there be all this room in Colorado when you Californians keep moving here? And texans, and new yorkers, and floridians. Its all good. It keeps the property values climbing. Cha ching. Your going to fall into the ocean anyway. Hope you know how to swim.

most ropes now come labelled with their date of manufacture as well so that you know exactly how old they are...

Wiggle, BUddy; I have my sea kayak ready to go for when the tectonic shift happens. And for your TECTONIC ERUDITION: it's not the SIERRA NEVADA here that's gonna fall into the pacific, it's the LA area and SF. And THOSE GUYS are the ones who keep moving to your state, so get ready for the exodus. Ka-ching indeed. So I'll be sea kayaking the fjords of the Sierra Nevada (imagine having to BOAT into the mother stone to do your wall. YEEEEEHAAAAAH!!!!) while you guys out there hafta deal with the LozzzAhhhhhNggeleeenoz and their MASSIVE SUVs. I'll never move to Colorado. Not enough weed, and it's too close to texas (there MAY be a causal correlation there...). So cheer up, bub, and get your real estate liscence now, before the migration gets any more voluminous or Rapid. ...... And ROCKJOCK; good luck getting outta the midwest. If you're in this area look me up, and I'll show U the range. We have this place here called YOSEMITE. There's a little bit of climbing there... "How can there be all this room in Colorado when you Californians keep moving here? And texans, and new yorkers, and floridians." THERE'S NOT! IT'S ALL FULL! GO BACK TO TEXAS, CALIFORNIA, (insert any state but Colorado here)! Of course there's always eastern Colorado which is just Kansas pretending to be Colorado. Feel free to move there. Jim

we would have plenty of room here if there werent so many illegal immigrants. i have a feeling that will change soon with all that is going on in the world. other then that, californians are 'trying to take over' colorado. it will never happen cause they cant deal with the cold or the elevation.

rockjock04 and graniteboy, don't bag on Ohio. It's a hell of a state. As far as climbing there are a few spots. Hocking Hills, Cliffton Gorge, and a few others. But rockjock04 it is a must for you to move. I did and now I'm 5 minutes from Josua Tree. Killer!!!! O the rope thing. I forgot what I was going to say.

Oh YEAH: ROPES. 1)Never buy a rope from a shop that doesn't have a high turnover rate for their gear. I prefer to order ropes that the shop doesn't even stock, to make sure it hasn't been sitting around forever. 2)BUT nonetheless, the rope info tag the rope came with should have a manufacturing date on it. Check that date or don't buy. Keep this guy at bay: use your noggin. [ This Message was edited by: graniteboy on 2001-12-28 21:25 ]
