Hi, today I was close by Calabogie Lake and close to the dam, on the west side of the lake, aside of the ski hill, do any of you know this place :?: because I think it could be a nice place for climbing.

I admit I don't know the place you are talking about but there IS climbing near calabogie. Do a search for ice climbing in calabogie and you'll find directions to this cliff. Parts of it are usualy wet (hence the ice climbing) but there is some rock climbing to be done there.

Yup, there is climbing near the dam I have a draft copy of the old guide book and I remember reading about some climbing near the dam.
Also if you are going to the main cliff (behind Calabogie ski area), look out for the poison ivy. As the bottom whole cliff base was covered in it.

Hey! ~ Ottawaian here (I need a profile...)
I used to swim at that dam and have dirt biked up the hill, water skied all over the lake, heck I've been all over that area, even way back in the bush there are some great little ponds. At the time, I wasn't into climbing, so I don't recall seeing rock...
Questions...Questions...Questions....
Where did you get the guide book? Apparently there is something available at Calabogie Ski Lodge.
I will do some searches...What a pleasant surprise! I love that area.

I don’t remember where i got the guide it was about 8 years ago. All I have is about 6 double sided pages photocopied from a draft copy of the book by Steve Adcock. I did not know there is a new(er) guide book out for the area (I will have to check this out).
As for the other climbing site they mention (Dillon's Edge) I think that is the new bouldering area? The only problem is that there were some access issues last year and I don't know if they have been resolved.

its nice to see that climbing is not only supported but pushed by a corporation. I will see if i can get a .pdf of the new Dillons Edge guide.
All routes form 60 to 100 feet should be interesting hey!

I've only ever skied there, but I have seen some climbing around calabogie.

I live in Calabogie, and I also climb. I haven't heard of climbing near the dam before, but it is possible that it is there. Like mentioned above there is climbing behind the peaks located near eagle's nest and the manitou trail. Top rope, sport and lead climbing are all available here as well as bouldering and ice climbing. It is a very busy spot on weekends but very quiet during the week. There is great climbing for beginners and experienced climbers. I don't know a lot of the routes names or grades unfortunately. Being a local I just kind of set the rope up with my boyfriend and have tried a lot of the climbs there. If there's anything else you'd like to know about calabogie, even if it's not climbing related feel free to ask. Also, in the summer the rocks are not wet unless it has rained. It starts to get wet around late october/early november as this is when the frozen waterfalls for iceclimbing start to form. I go there quite often, and have watched the process of this. Very neat.
