I know that if your rope gets dirty, that the particles that make it dirty can cut fibers and crap like that, weakening the rope. What is the best way to wash your rope? What about machine washing your rope? I've heard this works well, but I have my doubts.....

I've also heard of people using mild fabric softener to make their rope softer and easier to handle. Is this feasible?

What effect might washing it have on a dry treatment?
