Palisade head caution Ok it comes with the sport. But I just felt like putting out a little warning here. If you have ever, or are planning to climb Superior Crack (5.8+ off width) take a little caution. 2/3 of the way up the crack opens up wide enough to step back inside of. At the lower lip of this feature there is a large chalk stone protruding like a finger. Last Friday I did a pull on it and the whole mess shifted and 50 pounds of rock slid out from underneath. I gave a few tugs to try and dislodge the chalk stone but it was raining and I was fricken cold. Beware! This rock will eventually come out. If you are not being top belayed your belayer is likely to be seriously messed up when this happens. You can see all of this from the look out. It isn’t much of a problem to get around this but just take a little extra caution.

Thanks for the warning phatires! We will definately be up there and probably on that route at some point in the next couple months. Hopefully someone can yank that chunck outta there soon. Also, that area is one where it is definately better to top-belay from because it can be a real bitch to get out of there if you happened to get caught at the bottom at the wrong time, like, if a big storm were to roll in unexpectedly. duskerhu

Ah, Palisade Head. The only place I've ever been hurt by falling rock. :? Thanks for the warning. I was going to be up there this summer. I usually do Shovel Point, but Palisade is definitely on my list of all time favorite places to climb. GT Miss Minnesota right now

Yea, I pulled on the same stone about 3 weeks ago. Someone should toss that puppy, preferably early in the morning. It was a great little perch to stand and rest on tho. :D
