When I was a kid I used to save my reader's digests. The other day I just randomly grabbed one and thumbed through it--it was from the 80's. In it was the story of a climber who had lost both feet after getting caught in a storm. (Amputation from extreme frostbite.)You'd think that would be the end of his climbing, but this guy was the real thing. He, as a seventeen-year-old, actually designed his own climbing prostheses, complete with mobile ankles! And he was climbing on them! Obviously, that's very impressive. So I wondered if he was still climbing these days. Lo and behold--he actually made a career designing cutting-edge prostheses, and yes, he's still climbing. His name is Hugh Herr. After that, I guess anyone's dream can come true.
