I am working on making a trad rack for just all around use, Please suggest gear I should get, No tricams way to expensve for now. UP till now I have been using a buddies gear wile he was away in england at school. Help pleae

quickdraws-----10 extra crabs-----10 a few slings set of nuts nut key hexes rockcentrics----sizes 5 7 9 rps/wire stoppers a few locking crabs belay device ect ect thats basic, tho you can do without some stuff and might want to add some stuff too.....hope i didnt leave any thing out???? joe

The only thing I would add for gear would be Camp Tricams. Not the spring-loaded camming device but the ones that Lowe-Alpine used to make. The 4 smallest sizes are a nice addition to a beginner's trad rack. I would, however, recommend you change the quickdraws into standard length and a couple of double-length runners. They can easily be shortened if necessary, yet they offer more possibilities for placement and a clean rope line.

My only suggestion is to use trippled spectra slings hung like draws instead of "sport" style draws. You kill three birds with one stone. You have an adjustable length draw, slings, and you can store your free 'biners this way. I carry 6-10 of these depending on the length of the route. Turddad

Are we getting confused again between Tricams and TCUs? I know of no spring loaded Tricams.
