Contrary to popular belief, there is good climbing here in the U.P. I am a new climber and I am starting to find great places to climb. If you have any questions or are coming up my way and wanna climb just let me know and I will help as much as I can.

Define "good" in this context.

Nice to see other Yooper climbers. Spent 4 years up there and I agree for the area, there is some good climbing.

Nothing like JT, Yosemite, or most of the places out west, but for the area I would call it good climbing.

where are you in the UP? MQT, Houghton, Iron Mtn?

Like I said, I am a new climber. So I will define good like this: It is better than a wall, it is real rock. Mostly top roaping. Other than that I do not have the experience to judge.

No problem. I will, the last I would want to be a walking mosquito bite. So how have the black flies been this year. I heard they've pretty bad.

whos up here and who's not? I live up here and the climbing is great, for the 5 months that you get. Mostly topropping, some scary hard leads, and probably 200 boulder problems in the imediate area. feel freen to email me for more details.

Is there anything around the Crystal Fall/Iron River/Iron Mountain area? I have some relatives up there, and might be up there later this summer. If there is some climbing or bouldering in the area, I'd love to check it out!

The black flies are pretty bad as well. although I went the other night and they were not as bad as they used to be. Do to the floods the forests are still wet which in turn raises the insect population which also makes it bad for us climbers in the U.P.

To answer the question about Iron Mountain< I am sure there is going to be some climbing there but I do not know where, someone would have to go out and find it. Sounds like a good camping trip for August.

:D im so happy to hear there is good climbing up there. is there anything in the porcupine mountains? i backpacked through there last summer an didnt see too much. saw a good sized slab of stone, although covered in moss. there might be some sweet multi-pitch routes near lake of the clouds. let me know what youve thought of
