I`m presenting here a pictorial trip report of a climb that Lee and I put up. Orangeoverhang (Neil Monteith) recently attempted to onsight this spectacular sport test piece but alas he fell once so had to resort to the redpoint.

The start of this route is 60 metres off the deck and the roof is about 70 metres off the ground so there is shall we say quite a deal of exposure.

We start with Neil on the initial steep crimpfest which takes ones mind completely away from the soaring roof looming overhead.

Neil continues up on the crimps whilst clipping into big fat SS ringbolts.

He chalks up whilst hanging on to a conglomerate sloper ledge.

Now here is where the climbing gets interesting.

Don`t be alarmed Neil is jug hauling his way across on way huge bomber jugs.
http://www.rockclimbing.com/...p.cgi?Detailed=14949

Clipping the long draw he is now safe from a deadly backswing against the wall.
http://www.rockclimbing.com/...p.cgi?Detailed=14950

He`s looking for the crucial letter box slot hold
http://www.rockclimbing.com/...p.cgi?Detailed=14951

That slot hold is a relief to find and then it is all hard work to yard up to the next hold.
http://www.rockclimbing.com/...p.cgi?Detailed=14952

And he`s pulled it off.

I spared Neil the indignity of posting pics of him hanging on the rope looking defeated. Top effort all the same Neil.

Let me know how this photo essay works for you.

Wow
I saw those shots and I thought
Wow
I wish I was doing that right now
Wow
I should go there
Hmm maybe I should train harder
Hmm how much is the flight
Hey the rain is letting up
Hey I'll go climbing now and maybe one day I will be doing that.

Someone asked about the preclipped draws. The pics were of Neils second shot which he scored the redpoint. Neil was also suffering from the after effects of the flu and jetlag from only having 2 hours sleep the night before.

It`s an Oz grade 23 or 5.11b and yes it is a ton of fun. Every time someone new gets on it they climb it a little differently or have an epic (is that possible on a sport climb) but the main thing is that they provide endless amusement for the peanut gallery who have a fantastic view from a peninsular of cliff jutting out and at the same height as the roof about 40 metres away. The outrageous position of this climb messes with your head.
