(I see that someone else has started a thread with the same name, so amused are we all!)

Since we were all enjoying that so much in Tracy's tomboy thread, I thought I'd take a little survey.

Were you the kind of girl who

A. Dressed Barbie up?

B. Cut off Barbie's hair?

C. Cut off Barbie's head?

D. Were P.O.ed when ice scating Barbie couldn't even stand up let alone skate like she did in the comercials.?

E. Prefered to play with Giant Disembodied Barbie Head, whose plastic hair was summarily melted with a curling iron and who ended up wearing permanant whore paint because mom's oil-based make-up didn't wash off the plastic the way the way the play stuff did?

F. Wondered why Barbie got to have such huge boobs but no nipples?

I was a B, D, E, F.

F. and G. The few times you did play with barbie, she always ended up having he-man esque adventures in the barbie RV out in the wilderness of the other side of the room. Including, but not limited to, saving the other barbie dolls from falling off cliffs, and needing to cook dinner when all there was to eat was squirrels. Sometimes she didn't survive her ordeals.

:D

I'll be honest, there was a fair bit of A in my child hood, but I think Barbie somehow got tied in with GI Joe at certain times. I was also D and F.

A & D - I always had to play with my friends' barbies.

I had barbies (cowboy barbie that winked and the peach ball dress barbie were my favorites) at one time, but my mom and dad didn't think they portrayed women well. So one day Ken moved out and Barbie followed. Or so the story goes. I always suspected they moved to the city dump.

How funny!!! I was all of the above. Then after I cut Barbie's hair, I went fot mine and my eye lashes (still regret that one). I was an ugly kid for a while.

I was a B girl myself!
Cut the hair off my sisters Barbies, and got in trouble.

So I was stuck playing with my brothers trucks in the mud and finding bugs. . . they were more fun anyway .....

This is great...

I was pretty much all of them and more...for some strange reason I would stick Band-Aids all over Barbie. Don't ask..

My favorite had to be Western Barbie with her huge gold hair (with the metal woven in so you could mold it) and the button on her back that made her wink! Sucked when her eye-lid finally stuck shut...bummer. That's about when I decided she wasn't wearing nearly enough blue eyeshadow and touched it up with a sharpie. Barbie was HOT! Too, bad the sharpie didn't wash off...oh well...

boy-howdy, i had no idea my term for an up-for-any-adventure outdoorsy girl (dirt-barbie) would get such mileage and cause such a stir. all i have to say is i retain the marketing rights!

so ... when i was a kid -- around 6th grade -- i would regularly take my g.i. joes down the street to tonya jane rafferty's (we ALL use three names down south) house, where i would enlist her barbies in a game i called "g.i. joe goes on furlough". it was HOURS of good, clean fun!

this pastime backfired on only two ocassions. the first was when her daddy, the reverend jack rafferty, walked in on us and inadvertently happened upon what i'm sure looked like a little midget porno scene right there in the middle of tonya's bedroom floor. he wasn't quite right for several days after that, and, in fact could have used some serious therapy.

the second time it backfired was actually years later, during my freshman year at college. i was in the back seat of my '72 opal gt (yeah, i can hear the guys laughing) about to close the deal with a hot young thing, when i accidentally dislocated her hip.

i SWEAR that was the first time it had ever occurred to me a real girl's legs wouldn't flip up over her head just like barbie's used to!!!!

I was all of the above, including G. I got bored very soon by A (dressing barbie up) it just took too much effort and why did she have to where those stupid clothes all the time anyway? Barbie got to play alot with G.I. Joe cause I had one of those too, and he was so much cooler than Ken. They went on alot of adventures together. But my barbie phase didn't last long.

i wasn't allowed to have a ken doll so even when i had barbies they were independent women who lived on their own. i built a house out of a cardboard box... complete with carpet i cut to fit and everything!

thing is, i had 3 older brothers so i wasn't really into barbies during the age period most kids are. when i was 12 i had a friend with only sisters so she was really into barbies so i went out and bought a bunch just to keep up with her.

but she had ken dolls. i learned what barbies and kens do. oh my.

I hung out with a bunch of girls who got our Barbies together and had them go skinny-dipping in the stagnant water in an abandoned washing machine.

It's no wonder I'm such a weird adult. :P

I'd donate my barbies to my brothers so they could destroy them, or so we could destroy them together.

I also used to break Ken in half and stuff him with computer chips. Then I'd close him up and pretend he was terminator. That was always fun.

I was a little of A and a lot of GI Joe on Furlogh. I also blew up Ken with firecrackers and pretended my Barbie Camaro was the General Lee.

i was a bunch of A and some D... my parents thought that little girls should love Barbie, My Little Pony etc. etc. etc.

i remember getting really mad over gymnast barbie not flippin and stuff...

i think she went on a skydiving adventure over the bannister and her parachute failed to open

then the barbie torture fad started where we cut her hair, bruised her up and sent her poor camaro (barbie driving) into the semi frozen pool

I was B - I chopped off the hair and then colored it with pink magic markers or black nail polish or whatever I could find. The generic barbies only had hair coming from the part in the middle of their heads, which made the perfect circumstances for 'mowhawk' barbie. My mom still has some of them. My sister in law says they are scary looking. I think I have always been a punk rocker at heart.

I also remember my mom flipping out when I put Ken and Barbie in the same bed - even when they had all their clothes on! yeesh!!!

I was a horse crazy little girl and was always annoyed that Barbie's legs didn't move in a way that allowed her to ride my Breyers horses - so often my Barbie dolls ended up with broken legs.

Yeah . . . I can hear all the snickers now.

Funny 'cause I've broken more bones horseback riding than climbing . . . coincidence?

A & D.
Except for me it was Skiing Barbie. I got her for Xmas one year and was so pissed when she couldn't stand on her skiis. I ended up using elastic to keep her skiis attached to her boots and eventually built a big snow ski jump for her in my backyard (growing up in frozen Minneapolis, still played outside all winter). I threw her down the chute and she soared! Straight into a nearby snowbank where she disappeared and I didn't find her until the damn thing finally melted in late March. Suprisingly she held up quite well throughout the winter, and subsequent spring snowmelt.

I tried curling Barbie's hair once with a curling iron...all it did was make it almost catch fire.

My Ken doll and Barbie would fool around a lot too. Anyone else do that?

my parent's house had a sort of Japanese-style indoor rock garden w/ some small palm trees...i used to take my two barbies down there and pretend they were in the rainforest. I would spend a really long time creating these elaborate houses for them-=-and then destroy the houses once i was done! I actually had a lot more fun with my brother's legos...

I would have to say I was a B barbie... I loved giving them haircuts although they never turned out right. My mom made me stop the haircut thing when my best friend desided to give me a haircut... although thats a whole nother story.
Anyways, after i cut off all my barbies hair i would spend the rest of the time pretending they were making out with ken, haha

A older friend and I captured some Barbies once and roasted them on the neighbor's incinerator.

We found out that if you turn them frequently, sort of like trying to get that perfect golden brown color all around a marshmallow, you can generate a credible rendition of "Affirmative Action Barbie."

Having been raised strictly PC and also being fascinated with oxidation-reduction equilibrium conditions, we went ahead all the way to the crispy critter stage.

Great fun, but we got caught and had to replace them.

:-(

I laughed when I saw this, I am guilty of using the term "Dirt Barbie" since reading it here. Just loved the term!!!!! Was perfect!

I personally never actually owned a Barbie, but heheheheh  my sister sure had a lot of them. Because of my love of watching my sisters face as she gazed in horror at my ripping her head off (Barbie's that is, lol) I am gonna say I am probably a C. If I was not ripping off her head I did love to make her ride in my toy trucks as I sent them flying off the cliffs we lived near!!!! Ahhhhh them were the days!!!

Once when we went to Rocky Horror there was a guy in a tough guy leather jacket, spikes across the shoulder, looking all "Don't F with me!" and there sitting on one of those nasty looking spikes was the head of Barbie. OMG! did I get a giggle outta that!

Whoda thunk of her as a fashion accessory for bikerwear!???
