I am heading up to Estes Park sometime this week and need to know of a cheap place to camp in or around estes.

Go into the Forest Service office in Estes and ask them about "dispersed camping" areas. This worked for me a few years ago when all the normal campgrounds were full. No water, no toilets, but you'll manage!!
A buddy of mine and I got away with parking in a LARGE dirt pullout outside of town to the west, and sleeping on the ground next to the car. A cop did come by, asked for our IDs and asked what we were doing. "Well, we're climbing tomorrow, and wanted to sleep at the base of the climb, but got here too late to get a permit to sleep inside the park." He told us we wouldn't be bothered again cause he was on 'til 8!! Good deal, I'd say, considering the bag of buds right on the floor!!!
