Buffalo and Niagara Climbers- Greetings! I am moving to Buffalo in a month or so and searched all over but couldn’t find answers to some specific questions I have, so here goes nothing. Let me preface this by saying that I went to school in Ithaca, so I am familiar with the central ny climbing scene in general. I have climbed at the glen and moss island, as well as the gunks and dacks. How long does it take from the Northern Buffalo suburbs (Amherst probably) to the glen? Is the bridge toll still like $4? How often do y’all usually head over? Any chance of weekday after-work bouldering? What kind of roped climbing is nearby? Trad and sport, I’m interested in both. How long does it take to get to the dacks and gunks? How is the NCC? Any comparisons to other gyms would be appreciated (ie. phili rock gym, boulder rock club, lindseth climbing wall, missoula rock garden – anything would be great) That’s all I can think of for right now, thanks in advance for your help! -Chris (Edited for clarity)

Moving to buffalo is not going to help your climbing career much. That's why i left. The dak's and gunks are both around 5 hours away, give or take. As far as roped climbing your closest bet is the Escarpment up in ontario a little under 2 hours away or little falls near amsterdam. Escarpment is good limestone climbng but it is pretty crowded. There is also some more limestone further north that you could check out. Supposed to be outstanding but I haven't been there. There was a rock and ice article on it a few years back maybe do a search for the issue. Or check out Rock and Road (Tim Toula). As far as climbing in the niagara gorge last I knew roped climbing was not allowed. The bouldering is pretty good but bad landings from what I saw so bring a pad if you can. There is an extensive website guidebook you can (or could) get for free if you do a quick search. I seem to remember climbing there after work a few times so it couldn't have been more than 45 minutes from buffalo, I was leaving down town though. The niagara climbing gym is pretty good compared to the other gyms I've been to but I don't know any of the names you posted.
