Word on the front range is that horse tooth reservior is closed. They (the state parks people) have closed and drained the reservior and are doing blasting on the dam. I'll try and find more info on this in the next week or so, and see when it will be back open.

The Tropics are permantly closed, and have been blown up. This was to add stability to the dam. The torture chamber is still open, but you have to tresspass to get there. The road up to Rotary Park is closed, and will be for a couple of years. You can still walk in if you park by the football stadium, but I am not sure if the park wants people to climb at Rotary Park. There are rumors that they don't want anyone up there because they would be hard to rescue if they got hurt. In any event, the piano boulder is still open, and I think Duncan's ridge is also.

I climbed Duncans Ridge last weekend and there were several climbers up there. One person said that a ranger stated it was open and there was even a climbing course going on. Although all of the bolts have been removed from the area. Rumor has it that some freaking hard core trad climbers who work at the Mountain Shop in Fort Collins took them out. If this is the case I'll never shop there again and those people need to get a life. Find some real rock that is more than 50 feet tall!

You can get a map of what is closed and open at The Mountain Shop. Rotary Park is open, but you have to hike in from the Football Stadium. It is nice up there since not many people are doing the hike. Also, the Piano Boulder is open, and popular. Everything beyond the old fence line is closed, so this rules out the Gill Problem up there. Duncans ridge is also open. You can hike in from the parking at the Piano Boulder, but respect the signs on the hike in.

I knew the reservoir was getting drained, but for what reason, I don't recall...this makes me sad to hear...

Especially the part about the Tropics getting blown up ?! Now where will I go on my next trip to watch the hotties warm up?

So, when are things projected to open back up?
