We have a vacation house in Lake City, Colorado and I go there a few times a summer. Looking for some where close to climb and somebody to climb with. I know of some boldering in Gunnison and South Fork but looking for something closer.

Durango has some stuff, but again its not very close. Unaweep... not too close. Penitente and Witches Canyon might be your best bet.

There is beautiful sport climbing near Lake City that was developed by Gunnison and Colorado Springs climbers. Its on the road up to Cinammon or Engineer Pass (not sure which one), on a south facing hillside at 10000 feet. Its been a couple years since I've been, so I can't give better directions, but keep your eye out for the obvious cliffs (some small waterfalls too) on the hill above the right side of the road. 20-30 minute approach and probably 25-30 routes total. The rock looks like granite, but is more pocketed than you'd expect from granite.

We have taken several fishing trips to Lake City and I have found some great bouldering problems down along the river, mostly down river around the dam. Park at the Texan cabin rental place or somewhere public around there, walk down river until you see large boulders and big cliff faces. None of the routes are recorded or marked. But with a spotter and crashpad you can get some great climbs in, so just do some searchin. I am sure the locals spend some time here but everytime I am there it is just me and a buddy. I am no expert rating routes by any means but I would say there are several good problems that are V4-V5ish and a alot of awesome overhang stuff that I havent messed with because it hangs out over the water. I have spent alot of mornings here climbing. Its a honey hole.
