So today I decided to head out to Kankakee state park and see if there is anything to boulder on. I arrived up there and it took me a little bit but i found some rock at the Chippewa Campground, which i think is the last one. Not only do they have some bouldering rock but they have some 12-20 footers that could definitely be toproped. I think the park is supposedly "offlimits" I found out today the hard way, some of the rocks like to come out while climbing. I had a nice 8 foot fall after grabbing the top of an overhang. So be choosey on which parts to climb test your hold if the rock doesn't look to great, but there is some solid rock also which is awesome. It is back in the forest about 50yds or so, so I am guessing even if it is offlimits no one will bother you if you are safe, no one bothered me. I emphasize the safe part especially because it is hard to find a good place to put a crash pad. I say if you are in the chicago area though check it out only like 45 minutes from south suburbs maybe 1 - 1.5 hours from chicago. PS. The new Boreal Zens I bought are great shoes, no matter what anyone says about the fusion 3 rubber. Awesome edgers also.

In reply to: they have some bouldering rock but they have some 12-20 footers that could definitely be toproped. Who would waiste their time setting up a toprope on a 12 foot bouldering problem? or a 20 foot problem for that matter.
