This beautiful Dalmation was rescued from a kill shelter with a day to live. She is in a foster home in Louisiana and needs a permanent home. Tenn-dawg?? do you need a good mutt? She is deaf but a beauty...

Gretchino - You may need a Yahoo passport. PM me and I can e-mail it to you. Yes, she is listed on www.deafdogs.org. I would take her if she was in California.

Very sweet dog, watersprite. My old dog Pete looked similar, but with fewer spots. Oddly enough, he lived out his old age in Louisiana chasing nutria, barking all night in the swamp, and scarfing up trash from the neibors on the sly.

A dog sits waiting in the cold autumn sun
Too faithful to leave, too frightened to run.
She's been here for days now with nothing to do
But sit by the road, waiting for you.
She can't understand why you left her that day.
She thought you and she were stopping to play.
She's sure you'll come back, and that's why she stays
How long will she suffer? How many more days?

So why this current obession with Sparkles? There are a million dogs out there needing homes. I do rescue in my spare time and I'm not posting photos at RC for them . . . maybe I should.

I thought she was in the Bay Area and e-mailed the rescue person about her. Something about her face - and I love Dal's, and I want a deaf dog - either a Dalmation or an Aussie. I know, I can't rescue them all, but she was on the short list at a kill shelter, and it just weighed on me.
I heard from a nice person here who lives in the South and he will circulate her pic.

Maybe we could start a forum for dog rescue...

Sprite, you want a deaf Aussie? I'm on the California Aussie rescue and we get them in now and again. How serious are you about that? I can definitely hook you up.

Dals and Aussies are a bit different, though.

thanks, Kris - I'll let you know in Sept. - I'm looking for a place with a nice yard. I really don't have the room a big dog needs right now.

I have a friend with an Aussie, and I love her - she is so smart, and humorous. I swear that dog laughs at you!! They need a lot of exercise, and need a "job."

What I know about Dals is - they are usually a 'one-man' dog, and can be eccentric. lots of people get them for their kids because they want a dog like the cartoon 1001 Dalamations without understanding the dogs' temperament. They're more of an "adult" dog, aren't they?

Aussies and dals are like night and day:

A: Totally interested in what you are doing
D: Totally interested in everything else you are not doing

A: Protective and keen
D: Friendly and goofy

A: Long, shedding hair
D: Short shedding hair

A: Quick to learn, eager to please
D: Quick to learn they don't want to please unless there's something in it for them

A: High energy
D: High energy

Dals are good dogs for people who don't want to put much time into their dog in terms of relationships. They are happy to go along with you, but impossible to train well (I've never seen a dal hold a stay for too long).

I'm sorry L. but I simply can't adopt a dog right now. Living in an appt. I don't even have a yard for them to run around in.

My Border Collied Died last year, and I haven't had a dog since, I really miss him sometimes, but I'm going to have to wait until I have the space and the time to raise another one right.

Me and my Border Collie used to go work the cattle next door to my parents house. It's in their blood, and it's really not fair for them to be away from it.

I'll raise another one when I graduate college, but if I can't spend at least 5 or so hours a day with them, I won't raise a border collie. They take lots of work to curb the guitar string tight energy level, and if I can't spend lots of time with them, they'll just be another crummy dog.

I'm thinking about getting a job with an Air taxi service in AK so I can keep my dog in the plane most of the day when running trips. I think It might be a bonus to customers to see a dog after a couple of weeks in the wilderness looking at each other. Of course they'd probably like to see a beautiful woman too. Whadda ya say L.?

I've seen numerous dogs and other pets and a child mauled by Rhodesians. They rank (for me) past pitbulls and WAY past rotweilers and dobermans on the "undesirable" scale. Probably the worst pet I can think of, and I'm not trying to troll. Why can't people get peaceful, friendly pets? And a pet that's peaceful and friendly to their owner and then kills someone elses pet is not a peaceful and friendly animal.

Thanks, PB. The Rhodie I take care of is a sweetheart, but she isn't pure Rhodie. And I've heard that Dals are just impossible. and no, I don't have the time to give to an Aussie. I guess this dog will be ok -
thanks for the responses, and Trav - just - thanks! You make an old lady smile.

Here's the family dog. She's awesome. Near as I can figure, she's gotta be purebred yellow.
