do you feel it is safe to trust "cosmetic blemished biners? i know that saving money on life saving equipment should be the last thing on my mind, but it would be nice if i can get biners for cheap.

I feel there totaly safe. a bleam just affects the looks. not the way they work

Dude I bought some of them a while back and couldn't tell the difference. I've also bought some blem pins and they where almost identical to the normal pins. So yeh I would get them it will save you a bundle.

As the above said, it is only a COSMETIC blem. It does not affect the structural integrity of the biner. If not, they probably couldn't be sold. Can you even tell the difference between the two?

Just like to add a point, the cosmetic blems still go through the same testing. As said above they may just have a scratch on them. I have bought many a cosmetic biner!

Just a hunch, but I think "cosmetic blemish" might be a euphemism for "overstock" or "discontinued". Who wants shiny gumby biners anyway?

A Black Diamond employee, who shall remain nameless, once confided in me that of all the blemished gear BD sells at a discount, only roughly 10% to 20% actually had a visible finish flaw.
His/her theory was that BD sets a predetermined percentage of gear that should be blemished during the manufacturing process. If the actual blemished gear produced does not meet or exceed the percentage, they use non-blems to "fill-in" the percentage and sell it at a discount.
I then asked if the employee actually uses blemished gear, and they indicated that they will buy (at their discount of course) blemished (and discontinued) items whenever possible.
