Here is a letter from the South Eastern Climbers Coalition's Homepage. Just as a reminder to anyone who might still climb At LRC, give it a rest for a few weeks. If any crap gets stirred up ove tresspassing now, you are screwing us for sure. Stay out of LRC for now, and let the big dogs work!
In reply to: As many of you already know, access at Little Rock City has been in various phases ranging from officially closed to really freakin' closed, over the last several years, depending upon how fed-up with trespassing, litter and noise the landowner happened to be at the time. Worthy attempts, first by Luis Rodriguez of TBA and more recently by SCC President Lance Brock, over the last couple of years, to open dialogue with the landowner were to no avail for reasons unknown. After Lance's latest attempts brought no hope, we (the SCC) decided that it was not going to happen anytime soon and we thought it would be best to encourage cooperation with the closure in hopes of someday having a better shot at it. During all of this, a seemingly unrelated story is unfolding... Chad, Jim and I, while hanging out at a restaurant after a good day of bouldering, begin talking about an idea they had been tossing around for a couple of years of how cool it would be to have a bouldering series in the Southeast that included Hound Ears and two other premier boulder fields. We decided that the ultimate series would include, for obvious reasons, Hound Ears, Rock Town and Horse Pens 40. We already knew that gaining permission from the GA Department of Natural Resources to have a comp at Rock Town would be difficult at best and we developed an extensive proposal that included detailed strategies to manage any impacts that the comp would have. Brad, Lance and Chad at different times met, in person and on the phone, with rangers and administrators and despite "no" after "no" they continued to present our case as well as possible; but in the end, the DNR still felt like it was best not to allow a comp at Rock Town. We were not too concerned however, because we knew we could always fall back on Sand Rock or Boat Rock, even though we thought it would not be as cool since comps had recently been held at those places and we wanted at least one comp to be "fresh" in that respect. Long about here, Chad decided that, despite the fact that it was a super long-shot, we had nothing to loose by going to the Clubhouse at Little Rock City and dropping off the proposal we drew up for GA DNR, modified to address what we speculated would be specific concerns for the landowner. The next day or shortly thereafter, Chad followed up with a phone call, or two or three; but all we got was a message taken --or so we thought. A few of days later, a man (and his wife, who may be the key to our good fortune) walks into our store, Rock/Creek, and says, "Chad? I'm Mr. so-and-so, the owner of the Mont Lake property. I saw your proposal...". A fairly long conversation ensued touching on the competition and why we wanted to have one there. The conversation soon took a new path when the landowner started discussing the possibility of opening up his boulder garden year round. They discussed issues like trespassing, parking, liability and the number of users. He tasked us with solving these issues before access could even be a possibility. Fortunately, we had descent cooperation from climbers and future talks went into specific details on all of this. The landowner is a very nice man and, even though he mentioned, "I want people to be able to use it", he is assertive when it comes to his self-interests and we were (and will stay) determined to see his interests met while maintaining climber access at Little Rock City. Anyway, the very day we first met with the landowner, Chad and I promptly contacted a number of prominent local climbers to get their feedback and invite them to meet with us. Those that could not make it to the meeting either gave us their input over the telephone or individually came by the shop. In the end, it was Justin Eiseman, Ronnie Jenkins, Luis Rodriguez, Chad Wykle, and I that met. We devised methods to address the landowners concerns and, with covert assistance from a certain outstanding, unnamed local climber, we started implementing the solutions. This brings us up to where we are now, finishing up measures mandated by the landowner, which must be in place before he will allow climbing at Little Rock City. We are expecting an August 1st opening date. However, if we are unable to complete all of preparation tasks, that may get pushed back, but only by a few weeks at the most. Stay tuned to the SCC website and go to Luis's LRC Fund Raiser Comp for the rest of the story, which includes details regarding what you need to do to be able to boulder at LRC as well as information about the Triple Crown, the competition that started all of this. It is important to know, that even though we have provisionally been granted access, to begin when the last measure is put into place, we cannot start going to LRC yet. Now more than ever, we must stay the heck away and encourage others to do the same. During our last talk with the land manager, the last thing he said was "how are you going to police it"? We assured him that "between the tow trucks and self-policing by climbers, it wont be a problem." So, in the mean time, if people start showing up before we have permission to be there, Chad, I, the others involved and the SCC in general will look like a bunch of fools and the local climbing community will loose Little Rock City. Right now, through compliance with the closure, and more so in the near future by abiding by the guidelines, access will have more to do with you guys than it will be from anything that the SCC, Rock/Creek, Luis, Justin, Lance, Brad or I have done or will be able to do. This will be your accomplishment, not ours and you will deserve the credit. Don't let anyone screw up your access. Kirk Brode Vice President SCC Remember, our access depends on our actions. We need to respect the wishes of the landowner, and stay away for now. Travis

That's what they are woking on. At the moment it is looking pretty good, but who knows. Funny how the idea of a comp is what got the land owners talking. I can't help but wonder if they are consitering money making possibilities with LRC. Hmmm.... Travis
