Washing your rope. 1. Is it advised? 2. How often is to often, if needed at all? 3. What is the best method? A. I've heard let it soak in the bath tub in like baby soap or shampoo. B. I've also seen a device that hooks up to a hose or faucet and you pull the rope though it. I had not been using a drop cloth for my rope but I am now. Thanks in advance Wise Ones.

Yes, it is advised. Your BEST bet would be to buy some "Wicked Good Rope Wash", or something equizalent and follow the directions. There are other cleaners that can be used (things you may have around the house), but I wont get into that. I don't think one could wash a rope too often, as long as you don't use harsh chemicals, and dry it properly. The only drawback would be that if you have a dry treated rope, repeated washings will wash off your dry treatment. This isn't the end of the world, you can just buy some more dry treatment... With these cleaners you are basically going to put your rope in a tub with the cleaner and water. Agitate it, soak it, etc (as the label says), and then rinse it. I dry mine by laying it out on a big towell (NOT IN THE SUN!), and putting a fan over it. The fan's not really nessesary, but it speeds things up a little. And don't use it until it is fully dry.

1. yes. 2. as often as you feel. 3. take a cooler or bucket fill with mild soap and water. Put rope in. let sit for a few then dunk a few times. Then find the end. Pull the rope through your hands as the dirty water runs off. Repeat. Flake over something in your garage to dry hanging down. don’t let the rope sit in a puddle or in the sun.

Or on the cement (really bad) for that matter.

I wash my rope at leastevery 4 outings. I climb in the Red and the sand at the bottom of the crag gets on everything even with a tarp. I use the cooler method and hang it in the rafters of my garage to dry. I just use plain water and rinse it a couple of times.
