I'm actually going to be in Zurich for a race til the 1st, then I've got a free week. Looking to do some climbing and probably won't be able to carry a ton of gear (so alpine stuff is out). Looking for anything, from bouldering to sport to long stuff. Thinking about the Dolomites but pretty much open to anything. I have a friend who's on the fence, so I'm assuming I'll need a partner. I'm very experienced, though out of climbing shape. Still, I can probalby easily lead 5.11 and follow easy 12, even in the mountains. Like to climb light and fast, so LONG easy-ish routes done quickly are always an option. But, hey, it's vacation for me so I'm happy to do a handful of pitches and spend the rest of the day in the beer garden or cafe as well. I may rent a car, or just take a train to Cortina, Finale, or somewhere in France or Switzerland and hang. Totally open to whatever. Any ideas?

Switzerland is bolt crazy, so don't cross out alpine. I did a 10-15 pitch (not really sure how many to be exact) that was completely bolted. There are others. See if FishyPete chimes in. He knows the area well. Also, you can rent a car, but the rail system is excellent. You can probably get a week rail pass for much less than a car rental.

Thanks, Mike. Yeah, I've done some long bolted routes over there and that sounds perfect right now since the only thing I've climbed in a while is the 12' wall behind my house. I was ruling out anything with ice only.

Finale Ligure is perfect for 1 (2) pitch sport routes, good limestone, wild camping possible, good food in FinalBorgo and elsewhere if you ask me. It might be 6-7 hours by car from Zurich. There are tons of long routes around lake of Garda but i don't know the area so go check some italian sites. There are also tons of long routes in the swiss alps and forealps, but your holidays will fast be more expensive (like 25%!).

Thanks. I've been to Finale. It's great climbing, great scene, great food! In lieu of a partner I'll probably just head down to the Dolomites and hang. Any recommendations out of, say, Cortina?

I live in Trento, 30' to Arco or 1h30' to the Dolomiti. I'm not sure to be 100% for the first sept. (I had a surgery operation 20 days ago) but if you feel to climb something no too hard and long email me: zuckteo@virgilio.it bolzano (or Trento) would be a good place to stay easy to reach by train, cheaper as Cortina but no in the middle of the Dolomiti ciao Matteo
