I just got my very first set of climbing equipment, among other things I got 10 BD Quickwire Quickdraw sets.

Some of the carabiners have small indentation lines close to the gate, were the binner bends.

Is this normal ? Should I return them ?Please advice. I'm about to go leading using this equipement.

BD has great quality control (no, I do not work for them). I bet the indents are just mold marks. The quickwire is an "economy" 'biner and is not finished as nicely as the Hotwire. Imagine where the loads will be transmitted on the 'biner and check if the indents might cause a stress riser. I would bet they will not....but you be the judge.

Yes, this is normal. I have many biners with those indentions, and have fallen on them many times. More than I would like to admit.

i have those quickdraws and i asked around and it turns out it that bd does strength tests on there biners before they leave to the store, so those marks are fine.

Sounds like mold marks to me....most new gear goes through some pretty rigid quality control!!!

A-ok to fall...er...climb on the quickdraws. BD has superb quality control and these marks or indentations or normal.

Just to let you know guys, this is what I got from Shoreline Mountain:

" I checked with Paul, BD's QA manager, and he stated the marks Frank
is seeing are forming marks made during the gate manufacturing process.
Seconds they are not. Typically a second has a more pronounced cosmetic
flaw. Paul said this is a common mark that can vary in depth but
typically is very shallow. Frank is on it though. Thanks to you
and Frank for bringing this to our attention. You've been around
long enough to know we are not perfect and this kind of information can,
and has, allowed us to identify problem products that slipped into the
market place: Fortunately these types of scenarios have been minimized
by having a stellar QA/QC department."

So I seems these binners are good and there is nothing to worry about.

Thanks to all for your responses.
