Has anyone used a comealong for slacklining? I just tried it this weekend and it worked like rrrADAM's cheap-o-rade on a hot day! It's not very practical to set up when traveling though. Much better for a yard/fixed line.

This might go under one of those "better to keep your mouth shut and have people think you're a fool, than open your mouth and prove it" kind of things. However, what exactly is a comealong? I haven't heard of them. Peace

A come along is a ratcheting winch, my dad used to use them to tighten barbedwire when he was fixing fences. http://cgi.ebay.com/...29043&category=11767 here is one on ebay, this one would be overkill for a slackline, but it gives you an idea of what they are

I know a comealong is not normally used for webbing, but it didn't hurt the webbing at all and kept it as tight as anything else will. The one I used looked a little different than the one on ebay, but like justuspr said, it is the general idea. Anybody else ever used one?

Hatchet, He was refering to himself I think, not to you. I have never used one, the only system I have ever used is the 3 biner tightening system.

Or if they're not called comealongs they're basically the same damned thing. Like what trucks lash cargo down with. Some have built in pullies, some are just 1:1 autolocking ratcheting jobbers. Depending on how long/tight your line will be either will work.

I was referring to myself Hatchet, not to your question. By asking what a comealong was, I was putting myself in a slightly vulnerable position of having my ignorance paraded around. No hard feelings. Peace

Thanks for the link Justus, and the explanation to Hatchet. I understand now. Peace PS- in answer to Hatchet's question, this is obvious, but no I have never used one of those on my line. I also have only used the 3:1 biner tightening system.

i have used one of the tie down racheting (comalongthinggy) before. it is kinda cool cause to retighten the line after walking it you just have give it a couple pulls and you can hook your webbing right into it. the bad part of it is there is only somuch you can use cause you get to much webing in there and it binds up. i think the best thing about using one is that you can set it up by yourself. you dont need 3 big gorillas to get your line tight.
