I have been slacklining for a little while now and I have always wanted to set up a good line without biners, mechanical advantages, etc. So anyway I was setting up my line the other day and a guy I know started telling me about how to set it up without biners by hitching one tree and then using an alpine butterfly to keep it tight on the other side. He said it would give barely any slack and keep the line tight without using biners. Now I know my basic climbing knots but I'm just a beginner and do not know how to tie this knot and how it works, so I was thinking somebody here (Ammon?/Noah?) could confirm whether this makes any sense or not. If it does this would be great as I would only need webbing to slackline. Any help is appreciated.

I dunno either, but that guy said it would give less than 6" without biners. And that guy was a knot MASTER.

I'm no expert, but this works for me...
1) Tie a loop on a bite in the end of your slackline; big enough that it can be girth hitched around your tree of choice with the rest of the line coming out of the hitch.
2) Tie anchor sling around 2nd tree.
3) Tie Alp. Butterfly in slackline approx 5ft from 2nd tree. Run rest of
line through anchor, back through butterfly knot, and again back
through anchor for a 4:1 advavtage.
4) Tighten and hold with multiple half hitches.
It takes a total of five minutes to set up, and maybe two to take down. I leave the line in my car so I can set it up whereever I want to.
