I just checked out these boulders today at lunchtime. Fun stuff. Its 5 minutes from where I work and I plan on going back regularly. Hopefully somebody else will be there when I go. That way somebody can call 911 when I'm in agony with a broken back! See you there. Steve

Browsing around and saw this listed. Can I get more specific directions other than ElCamino and Palomar? Where should I park? What am I looking for? maurice

Where are the boulders off of melrose? Please do tell, i just moved to the area and need my fix. I just checked out these palomar ones today, definetly worth the 2 minute drive from work. Landings aren't bad, but the huge hole around the one boulder is definately annoying. I might have to fill it in... -J

Access issues? there aren't any right now. I've run into all sorts of county workers and even police out there and they are more curious than anything. They have said they don't mind us being there. the signs are actually meant more to protect the airport landing lights to the south on the other side of the fire road. There will be access issues later in the summer most likely. The whole canyon there is being developed (scheduled to start in Aug i think). I don't know if that includes these boulders, but i wouldn't be suprised if the whole thing gets fenced off. NB

Truth of the matter of access is this... The Airport is leasing that land for those lights. No tresspassing signs are there for your health, if a plane crashes, it's crashing there. My friend is a flight instructor there so I can understand the airports concern...of course, a plane hasn't crashed there ever, so don't be worried about it. When I was there one time a Lady Cop approched me and took my ID and called the land owner asking if he wanted to press charges. I just stood there laughing as he said "now why in the hell would I want to do that?" not really, but he said no and she walked away.

Looks like this subject hasn't been looked at in a while, but the boulders are still there. I've done it a few times and it works out best with a spotter. some of these rocks are 12' or so. These days its pretty muddy out there. to get there: if you're going northbound on el camino real take the first right after you pass palomar airport road. you can't miss the boulders on your right hand side after a hundred feet or so. i try to find a parking spot near the boulders. good luck Steve http://www.macamar.com
