Earlier today Chris Sharma finally succeeded on one of the word's most prestigious open projects, the extension to Biographie at Céüse. He has typically decided not to grade it, but accepts that it must be 9a+ (5.15a). The extension adds 16m of 8c (5.14b)climbing to the top of the existing 8c+ (5.14c). The grade has been summarily confirmed by Dave Graham and Steve McClure, who were out there trying it with him. The route was a goal of his for 4 years. Sharma has renamed the Biographie extension as 'Realization'. Still reluctant to grade the climb, he was quoted as saying "If I said anything, it'd just be because someone else said it, and they don't really know either. I think it's good to let it stand the test of time. If enough people try it then they'll figure out a rating for it." The first exclusive photos have been released at http://www.climbxmedia.com and can be found in the transmissions section for Aug. 7 [ This Message was edited by: fiend on 2001-08-07 20:14 ]
