I will be in alberta first week october, and I might extend my stay for a couple of additional days. I would like to make some alpine or classic ridge ascents. I would be alone, so I am not into glacier travel much. Nothing fancy, just something/anything to lessen the pain I feel in texas. Any suggestions?

Jasper, N ridge Geraldine 5.5 E ridge Cavell 5.4 Ridge route Mount Collin 5.6 Also a lot of quality routes in the tonquinn valley on bomber Quartzite. Snow might fck up your plans in October though. A number of the alpine routes in the rockies are runout/ sand-bagged/ and on less than ideal limestone... But, combine that with the chance of a large october snow-fall, and your in for a great adventure....

Just got back from there! Here's 3 jewels we picked that I highly recommend: ER of Edith Cavell -- DON'T descend the WRidge -- way too long. Go back down the way ya came up! Sir Donald (Purcells). Great quickie -- watch out for packrats at the col! Athabasca -- We got in the NF, which might have a bit of snow loading in October, but hey, might still be dry! Check it out from the Visitor Center telescopes. Great to hear another Texan in luv with the Rockies! Take care ~bw "Whispering in their ears, we give them unquiet dreams!"

In reply to: Grand Sentinal 5.6 - 5.10d (again one of the most beatuiful/photogenic places in the world) 5.10d trad in alpine setting might be a little hard for me  I will be in canmore, anything around there?

The 10D is a sport climb. The grand is a pinnacle tower, almost like a utah setting. Trad route is 5.6-8. You do need a group of 6 to hike in though because of the grizzly bears. In canmore check out eeor (East end of Rundle) almost in town. Great climbs up to roughly 8 pitches, both moderate sport (hard gritt 10B) and Trad. Also "ha ling" (china-mans peak), just across from EEOR, longest sport climb north of mexico or some sh!t like that. I think its 24 pitches, hardest is 10D, but almost all are in the 10's. Yamnuska is also close by if your looking for some other moderate Trad climbs. These are all worth doing and EEOR/china-mans are within walking/hitch-hiking distance form town- 5 miles. -These are above and beyond all of the alpine climbs in the area. When you get to town, pick up selected alpine climbs in the Canadian rockies, it will get you around :) -J out
