Hey everybody. I was wondering if there were any good books about climbing technique? At least for the near future all I will be doing is indoor wall climbing and I'll like to learn some of the techniques to help me out. Thanks again.

I would suggest

Rock Climbing by trail side

it gives you taste of every thing.

Ditto on Rockclimbing by Trailside. But if you were only going to have ONE book on climbing and you will eventually go outdoors-Mountaineering-The Freedom of the Hills is an absolute must!

The Trailside book that was already mentioned is the best ive seen. GET IT!! The only thing that it doesnt contain is a list of "ALL" the knots. It gives about 6. What you need to do is goto your library and look up a book on climbing knots. I have one but i left it at school so i dont know the name of it. Sorry But anyways trailside and a book on knots should get you prepared. Take lessons though, its the best way

ooze, I'm gonna give you a big fat 10 on your Q rating just for mentioning the bachmann knot. If you claim to know how to actually tie it, I'm gonna give you another 10!

Thanks. You guys are great. You guys are to rock climbing what Anandtech.com is to computers. (That's a big compliment for those unfamiliar with the site)

"Freedom of the Hills" is a great all-round book on mountaineering, but has next to nothing to offer by way of rock climbing technique. It woll do nothing for improving your gym climbing skills. check ou the Falcon series. Two of my favorite books on rock climbing technique building and training are "Flash Training" and "How to climb 5.12" Both extensively cover methods to improve technique, physical training and mental focus.
95% of the information is applicable to Sport, Trad, Big Wall and bouldering.

Enjoy

I have Mountaineering, Freedom of the Hills, and it has been so far the best climbing book I have ever seen. I would reccomend it.

Hey ooze, Im just saying that you should know your basics and your knots. When you buy a knot book you should probably have a rough understanding of what knots you'll need to memorize. For example if a book is telling you how to make daisy chains for aid and your just beginning of course you wont need those. I think
f-8,girth,fishermans,overhands,v-hitch, munter, clove, and slip knots are some you should know....im sure im forgetting some but you get the idea for basics

I have many books, but I can learn more at the rock gym, by meeting new friends who are better then me and they can teach me, new moves that you would see in a book.

Otherwise 'Climbing Your Best' is a great book.
