Down at my local crag there is a project I'm working on. I wanted to put draws up on it but I think people might steal them or try to shoot them down with shot guns. I thought if I put a quicklink on the draw for the anchor carabiner and tighten it down real good people would be less prone to stealing them. Anyway, my ? is can a hardware quicklink hold a falling load. I really wasn't sure on this. Please help....thanks

Are these bolt anchors you are talking about? If so, you should be ok using a quick-link. If you have double bolt anchors, why not go the whole hog and buy a couple of lengths of stainless steel chain and put them up as perminant "quickdraws"?

I thought I posted back on this maybe not. Yes, these are jest bolt hangers 5 of them. The rap hangers are ok. I really don't have to leave something on it as a "quickdraw". More or less I'm saying the route is so hard I want to leave draws on it but worried about people stealing them. I'm thinking this will work. Has anyone heard of someone doing this or have saw it. Thanks a lot man...-wEs-

I'm sure some hardware ones could hold a fall, but they might cost as much as Petzl's. The really cheap ones, I don't think they would, but I really am not sure.

where are you climbing? and how hard is the project? in my 12 years of experience i've never had draws or even trad gear stolen off hard projects, generally 12's and up it's pretty obvious somesone's working it, if i walked up the trail and saw a bunch of draws on a route i would never touch them, as for the quicklinks, the petzl's have a strength stamped on them the cheapies do not, although i've fallen on alot of cheapies and nothing has happened, if in doubt just put all your hacked up bail biners up as draws instead of the new shiny petzl ones so people will resist the temptation more.

gear thieves lick ass !!!

It's 5.13b. It's at Lincoln Lake, in Arkansas. The lake is used by fisherman and crazy jackasses. I guess I will jest put some draws up and pray they dont get stolen. Should I put a sign up? I was working on it a two weeks ago and now its snowing again. Arkansas weather sucks. thanks alot for replying.

If you're worried about the draws being shot at short pieces of chain, 3/8 in. galvenized so it won't rust, with a 'biner at each end and spray painted the color of the rock make great "permanant draws". And since they have been cammo'd they aren't likely to be seen to be stolen or shot. I hope this helps.
Jeff
P.S. when they're not on a poject they make great training weights.
