Get "Hidden Treasures" by Brad Singer. It has all the info. I have always been surprised this area doesn't see more traffic. There are some really killer climbs up there and a good spread of all grades. With his guide book out now though, my suspicion is it will start getting more popular as the word gets out about it.

what do you need to know? how to get there? the area is alright..its over bolted and there is probably 3 crappy lines in between 2 good ones along most faces. the stuff you can down load about the area is all out of date, you can just do what ive done and walk up to a formation and climb it out, there isnt too much stuff there thats not doable...

Arrowhead Pinnacles is a great place to visit and early November is a good time as the cooler temps will probably be upon us by then. The Hidden Treasures guidebook that Roughster suggested is a must have if visiting because the area is very complex and spread over an entire mountain. There are some good sport climbs (as well as trad routes) in the 5.9-5.11 range your seeking, but be advised that the better stuff is mostly found near the summit and in the Rotten Rock Valley which is a three mile hike from the car (about an hour's walk). There are some very good routes at the Shooting Gallery and in the vicinity of The Skull, but if that's as far as you hike you'll be missing out on the best stuff up there.

From the Guidebook: "Because of the long uphill approach, dense underbrush, tick infestation, and ability to get lost easily, the Pinnacles will probably never become a popular climbing area." -B. everyone has been a lot of help. Thanks. Hidden Treasures sounds great but... How about this? The website has a lot of good beta on routes. I could use that if some one could give me a scetch of the area so that I knew where places such as Barbarian Rock, Bong, Wall of Butresses were.

Singer I guess I didn't think/agree with it because none of those things would ever detour me from climbing at an area  .

I guess I should have included all that Singer wrote: "That said, it is nice to visit a climbing area in Southern California on a weekend and not have to deal with crowds." I'm with you Aaron, crowds are more of a deterrent than a long, difficult approach. :D

I've only climbed at the "Shooting Gallery" but the climbs were definitely stout. The routes needed to be cleaned up a tad (i.e. small loose stuff, not a safety issue), but that's just a matter of getting more traffic on them. Arrowhead Pinnacles area is fairly spread out so unless the person drawing you the map is really familiar with it you're more prone to getting lost than on a route. About the book, Hidden Treasures. It outlines several other areas within 20 minutes of Lake Arrowhead so it may be well worth the investment for you. Otherwise maybe ask around... you may be able to find a loaner book or even a free partner while your there.
