Hey all...
The true summit of Bishop's Peak is more than just a walk up, that's for sure. The last 30 feet up to the true high point is pretty intense.
I was wondering if anybody has any info on this last 30 feet of climb to the true peak.
What is the rock called?
Is the slab-side a 5+?
I've made the hike twice now. The first time I didn't have the right shoes to even think about going up the slab to the high point.
The second time, I brought my rock climbing shoes. I was able to climb the slab-side to the top, unroped. This was really exhilerating.

Hmmm, Rob . . . are you actually a climber? Before I was a climber, I'd still rock up that summit. It can't be more than a class four move to shimmy on to the top. My dog did it.
The name is: Summit Block. Surprise.
Unless you are talking about the spire that sticks out with the metal thingy on it. Then I have no idea what that is. When I get my SLO guide back I think I'll be of more help.
Next week it is high time that I hop back on P Wall. Oh yes.

Oh yeah! I got on top of this and every other point, easily, even with trail runners only. Class 3, I'm sure. Only thing that might make it class 4 might be trying to avoid the poison oak.

Yup! This is what I'm talking about. This is for sure a few feet higher than summit rock. That is why I called it the "true high point!"
And for sure it is more than class 4.

You think?
Their are bolts on the opposite side. The bolt side is vertical, and looks tough, so I can see it being 5.12.
But, I can't see the slab being 5.12.
Maybe it's not rated?

There are a couple bolted routes on the middle summit block. At least there were the last time I was there which was probably around 1996. Malnourished is to the left and Meltdown is to the right. Ryan Bello put them up probably in the early 90's. Meltdown I think went at .11+ but a hold may have broken making it harder. Malnourished was a project and I don't know if it ever went. Probably in the .12's though.
As for the original question about the slab... I have no idea. I never actually climbed it myself.
