We've all had our sayings and heard things while out there climbing so now is the time to share those that have stuck with you or made an impression on you. These could be quotes or just stories and other things you have heard...but they have impacted you in some way...feel free to share...

Well, when I am on the rock, I am thinking of spiritual questions, so here is my quote. "If there is no God, who pops up the next Kleenex?"

climber A says, "I can't reach the first hold" climber B says, "Then stand on my shoulders" climber A says, "lower me... lower me... LOWER ME!" climber B says, "I am?" climber A looks down to see climber B holding a foot of slack in his hand then looks up to see the rope lodged in a crack. All quotes of the experienced and proffesional climber...

I was bouldering with this guy once and we were both working on this problem and it was really kicking our ass. We tried every single different sequence, different holds etc. At one point we were both just sitting there staring at the problem silently and the guy suddenly says "I think I just need to pull harder." And with that he stepped up to the problem and sent it the next try. And then, rejuvinated, I sent the problem on my next try as well. Sometimes when faced with adversity and it feels like the whole world is against me I just think to myself "I just need to pull harder"

"...If you don't send this s--- right now, I'm not only going to kick your ass, but I'm going to do it for you." - My climbing Partner It seems to work everytime. Also, "If at first you don't succeed, you're not bleeding enough."

Whenever it seems like I can’t find the next hold I either close my eyes (or stare at the rock at my face) take a few deep breaths to clear my mind and then look again. I find that the sequence or even just a hold will usually just manifest itself. I believe the reason for this is my overanalyzing the route or problem instead of looking for the simplest or most obvious solution.

I was on a face/crack climb and couldn't find any holds on this one section except for one small hold the size of the top of my thumb. There was a crack to my left that I wanted to go over to so that I could work it up to a ledge above me. I told my belayer about my idea, which had helped some of the other people that I had belayed. He didn't want me to go left. He said, "Just go up." I was pissed, but I made it up.

Renowned for my "bright" ideas, my partner and I elected to attempt a climb (sure, you can make it, just clip there and pull up on that...) one day that was well above our previous climbs together - and, needless to say, we found ourselves in over our heads. My partner in utter despair looked down at me and shouted, "Yeah, now what!?!" Standing firmly on the ground belaying his lead (as usual), I calmly replied, "At this point, I think you're supposed to go UP." Ah, yes, it pays to be the smartass on the ground sometimes - at least until your partner gets back down . Mick

Bring the five, stay alive. Thoughts on the #5 camalot as my partner was whimpering in the easy looking(at least from the ground) offwidth section on the first pitch of a desert tower.

from the guy who taught me how to climb outdoors, generally every time i tried to ask for a rating: "Climbs fall into 2 categories: - 5.Fun & 5.Hard-Fun so quit looking for it in the book and get your @$$ on the wall."

Might just be an inside joke but in response to my buddy whining on the wall about not finding any holds: "What, are you crying? There's no crying in rock climbing!!" Mick

Well, I don't know if this is a saying or not, but I say it so maybe it is Everytime I hear someone crying at the crag or at the gym about how they can't climb this ir that route because they are too pumped, shoes aren't good enough, you know....legs broken.. blah, blah, blah. I say: "Quick! Somebody call the whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaambulance!" either that or "kwitcherkryin"

The one who lacks courage to start has already Finished>... Don't be intimidated...try it and do you best to succeed... I once had a partner belaying me say "Your not coming down until you make it to the top..." That was some motivation...I made it to the top...

I watched a show called "High Country Climber" (I hope thats not stupid but I enjoyed it being new and all) Anyway, They say "Climb Hard and Fall Infrequently" and I decided to etch it in a rock and have met a climber friend because of it.
