Screw the pull ups. Do Frenchies. Better for ya, and it will make you stronger. Or pull up 10 seconds and down in 20 seconds.

Jono, you're making a classic training error: training your strengths instead of your weaknesses. You apparently can do about 104 more pull-ups than I can, but I redpoint 5.12a while you redpoint 5.10b, according to your bio. If you want to improve your climbing, figure out what you're not good at (technique?), and train that. -Jay

well put jt512, Also, I'm an advocate for getting better at something through what you're trying to get better at...climbing! If you want to climb harder and better then you should climb more, there's no substitute. woodsE

Frechies are a variations on pulls ups, but instead of moving fluidly through the entire pull up you lock off at certain points. Example. Start by hanging on the pull up bar. Pull your body up until your forearms and biceps make a 120 degree angle. Hold for 5 seconds. Pull your body up until your forearms and biceps make a 90 degree angle. Hold for 5 seconds. Complete the pull up. Hold for 5 seconds. Do the same thing on the way down: Drop your body until your forearms and biceps make a 90 degree angle. Hold for 5 seconds. .... .... repeat until you can't raise your arms above your head. Where pull ups only work on your ability to pull yourself up the rock, frechies work on both the ability to pull yourself up and the ability to lock off. The later being (if not more) as important as the former. Hope this helps
