Hey, i've heard there are some decent onofficial ice climbing spots up here in NE ohio. Anyone ice climb around here who wouldnt mind a sexy beast like me taggin along with em this winter? :wink:

well, thats what i heard from the local dude at newman's outfitters... in fact in the winter they are going to offer a one-day workshop on ice climbing, equipment included, at an outdoor location the guy knows of. There's also a pretty cool gorge nearby that I used to play paintball at. It was about 50-60 feet deep and had some pretty decent ice formations, though since i wasnt a climber at the time i didnt look at any possible climbing spots. Hopefully this winter will be a doosie :P

I once swung tools on some sewer runoff under a bridge on Snow Road in Parma, Ohio. No kidding. It smelled like shite mixed with gasoline but hey, it was ice. There are also some really horrible shale cliffs under there. Tried to climb those too, rigged a TR on the bridge trellace then I almost killed my partner when I pulled off a microwave.
One time we also had a brilliant scheme to rig a fire hydrant to some garden hoses near one of our "secret" areas and make our very own NE Ohio ice park. That never panned out and we resolved to our normal routine of drinking beer and pulling plastic in the basement on the worlds smallest woodie while dreaming of sun baked crags.
My god, it's amazing what midwestern winters will drive you to do.
