Me and a partner are looking at using half ropes the type that use alternateing pro for our multi pitch trad and maybe alpine routes. Something in a 8.5mm 200 ft dry rope. Can you suggest any rope companys that stand out, or any ropes that are a must have? They all look about the same to me, of course I haven't done much research yet. Thanks

I've always loved Mammut.

I would recommend the Mammut 9mm.

Remember, you are going to be falling onto only ONE of these ropes - and 8.3mm is PRETTY DARN SKINNY!

Dr. Piton recommends you go for the 9mm x 60m. You will never regret the extra length.

PMI does make some good stuff. I have a pair of their 8.6 ropes that I'm very happy with. Like other PMI ropes I've owned, they are fairly stiff and stand up well to abuse. PMI only makes the 8.6 in 60m dry, perfect for alpine.

I use the Mammut Genesis 8.5mm 60m and love them. I would have no qualms about getting them again. If you are buying them for rock you should consider saving your money on getting a dry rope as the dry coating is pretty much worn off after a season on rock and people rarely rave about climbing in the rain. Besides after 3-4 rock seasons wearing out the dry coating, my ropes get wet when doing ice, but not so as it is a real pain. If you want them for ice then it is worth getting dry ropes and keeping them for ice only to prolong the dry treatment. New England ropes get a good rep too.
Good luck.

Though not a double rope, I use a PMI 10.6 dry rope (60 meters) and I've not found any flaws....it resists kinks, does not wear quickly, and has held up well. A fine deal for my money.

Best,
