Hey Everyone! Apprently my teacher wants me to write a ten page analytic research paper. We get to choose the topic, so I think I want to write about why we have the desire to put our lives at risk even though we don't have a death wish. My problem is I MUST have AT LEAST ten print-based resources. So, I would like to know if ya'll know any books that discuss this topic. Thanks for your help! Andy

I don't know if your teacher will go for it, but some of the best written thoughts on that subject, in my opinion, appear in Mark Twight's "Kiss or Kill: Confessions of a Seriaa Climber." Good luck.

I have "The Complete Idiot's Guide To Rock Climbing" and it starts out with a section on why we climb. At the begining of the section is a quote by George Mallory. Asked why he wanted to be the first man to stand on the earth's highest summit, he said, "Because it is there."

A qoute from Vertical Limit "I came here to live not to die" . I guess some of us feel more alive when we are closer to death.

There was something in the Trail's side book on rock climbing. One of the first sections is "Why we climb"

This topic was talked about a month or so ago. Do a search for it.
